'Concept albums' that aren't shit
I've got five, that are all probably 'rock operas' rather than concept albums

SF Sorrow - Pretty Things
Village Green Preservation Society Kinks
Tommy - Who
Arthur - Kinks
Quadrophenia - Who

These are all great, but Messrs Davies and Townshend should probably be burnt at the stake for some of the other shit they inspired, much of it incidentally, produced by Ray Davies himself.

The only concept for an album should be to sell a truck load.

On that basis

I don’t know if Dirt by Alice in Chains is a concept album or not, but all the songs have the same depressing feel. I love it.

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake fits the bill. Maybe Songs From The City?

This may be controversial, but I like The Wall, Animals and Wish You Were Here. Does Dark side of the Moon count?

Sgt Peppers is a good album no matter what the cool kids say.

I love early Genesis, can't stand post-Pete Genesis. However, I personally feel that LLDOB was probably the greatest single factor in the advent of punk.

I don't know what it was, but it sure weren't rock and roll.

Others may love it, of course, and peace and love to them.

Crack the Skye is pretty bloody good too and a sad concept.
I'll add:
Hawkwind - Warrior on the edge of time.
Gong - the teapot trilogy
Sleep - Dopesker
Dopesmoker is as high concept as it gets. One song spanning over an hour of crushing Stoner Doom about the Weedians finding their Nazareth bong in hand. Their record company was so shocked they refused to release it but did let others get hold of the original studio tapes eventually to finally get it out there.

Green Day - American Idiot
The Who - Quadrophenia
Neil Diamond - Jonathan Livingstone Seagull

Fair play to those that think the last one is a pile of wank, but for some strange reason I quite like it.

Now, this is getting a bit fucking narrow. What next? Albums with yellow covers that you think are slightly above average?

Mind you, I suppose the “albums everyone loves that you hate” and vice versa have been done so many times.

Anyway, my answer to this is:

Crack the Skye - Mastodon
